Portuguese Primeira Liga have 18 clubs with combined wage bill of around €155 million which put them 6th highest in European leagues. In 2025/26 season Benfica has the highest wage bill in the league with them spending around €37 million in player salaries followed by Sporting Lisbon (€25.8m) and FC Porto (€22.5m). 

Average annual salary in the league is around €130,000 (gross) per season but that jumps to €850,000 (gross) per season for the top four clubs in the league. Sporting Lisbon's Trincão is the highest paid player in the league with salary of around €3.9 million (gross) per season.
