José Mourinho Returns to Portugal as Benfica Manager With Record Contract
Benfica are set to official announce José Mourinho as their new manager. Verbal agreement has been reached and he should take charge for next Sunday's match against AVS Futebol. Jose Mourinho started his managerial career at Benfica back in 2000.
Mourinho's Benfica Contract Details:
According to Fabrizio Romano and number of other tier 1 reporters, Mourinho will sign initial two-year contract until June 2027 with option to extend until 2028.
His salary is expected to be around €6 million per season. Which will instantly make him the highest paid manager in Liga Portugal.

Mourinho was sacked by Fenerbache after they lost against FC Benfica couple of weeks ago. He was earning €10.5 million per season during his stay at Turkish club.
Brune Lage was sacked after defeat against Qarabaq on the opening night of Champions league group stage match. Brune Lage was earning €1.5 million (net) per season salary since his appointment back in September 2024.
Mourinho known as 'the special one' is one of the most successful manager in modern era. Although he has not enjoyed same success since his second Chelsea spell.
He stuggled at club like Tottenham, Roma and Fenerbache before returning to the club where it all started. However it is still an huge statement by Benfica to bring Mourinho back to Portugal.
