The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to be the most lucrative edition in tournament's history. 2025 editions starts on December 21, 2025, will distribute $38 million among 24 participating nations where the winners take home record $10 million.

2025 Africa Cup of Nations Prize Money Fund Breakdown:

Group Stage: AFCON 2025 will feature $38 million as total prize money fund. Teams finishing bottom of their groups and exiting the tournament will receive $500,000 each, while the two third-placed teams that are eliminated will earn $750,000 (each).

Knockout Rounds: 8 teams losing in the Round of 16 will earn $1 million each. 4 losing Quarter-finalists receive $1.8 million, while two losing teams in semifinal will earn $2.5 million. The runner-up will be awarded $4 million, while the AFCON 2025 champions will take home $10 million which is 45% more then 2023 tournament where Ivory Coast earning $7 million for winning the event.

Comparison with other Regional National Tournaments:

In 2023 edition CAF announced 40% increase in prize money compared to previous edition. For 2025, CAF announced another 43% increase for the winners payouts and small increase in the opening rounds taking total of $38 million.

Afcon has been closing the gap with other big regional tournaments but still fall way short of UEFA Euro's $385 million (€331m) and Copa America's $72 million total fund.
