Formula 1 'owned by liberty media' can generate revenue of around $3 to $3.6 billion every year. There are number of revenue streams for Formula 1 including worldwide TV rights deals, fees for hosting f1 races and other commercial sponsorship revenue.

How Formula 1 Prize Money fund is generated ?

But unlike other major sports, teams do not get bigger chunk of the yearly revenue generated by Formula 1. A rough estimte of around 45% of the total (OIBDA) 'Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortization' is distributed among F1 teams. We breakdown the entire process.

Special Ferarri Payment: From the $1.266 billion prize money fund allocated to be distributed among F1 teams. Ferrari gets outright 5% ($63 million) of the total fund as historic payment. 

Historic Success/performance payments: There is another 'column' of payments roughly 20% of the entire prize money fund which is around $253 million which distributed according to past championship wins and performances. Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and William get bigger chunk from this.

2025 F1 Standing based Payment:  Last but not the least, the remaining 75% ($949.5 million) is divided according to how teams finish in 2025 F1 season. Around 0.9% ($8.54 million difference between each position)
