Copa Del Rey Prize Money

Copa Del Rey is the most important cup competition in Spanish football. It has been around for over a century and was re-branded back in 1982 which resulted in equal distribution of money between clubs competing in it every year. Most of the money comes from TV rights deal which amounts to around €33 million a year. We breakdown how Coap Del Rey generate revenue and then distribute between clubs.

Copa Del Rey Revenue Distribution System:

Current domestic and international TV deals for Copa Del Rey bring in around €33 million every year. 90% (€29.7 million) of which is distributed among professional teams in Spain while the 10% (€3.3 million) goes to amateur football teams every year. La Liga clubs get the majority of the 90% payment (€26.5 million) while remaining €3 million goes to clubs in second tier.

From La Liga's pool of €26.5 million, 50% is divided equally among 20 teams in the league and that comes to €660,000 per team. Rest is divided according to how the teams finish in the cup. In total a Liga Liga team is guaranteed at-least €1.34 million a year from Copa Del Rey campaign regardless where they finish in the tournament.
